Estimate only · Senegal onlyThis tool estimates duties and taxes for goods imported and cleared for consumption in Senegal. How it works
How Senegal import duties are calculated
Customs value the goods at CIF, classify them under an HS code, apply the duty rate of the tariff category, then add the levies and VAT.
| Category | Duty | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| 0 · Essential social goods | 0 % | Medicines, books, some medical equipment |
| 1 · Raw materials & capital goods | 5 % | Machinery, raw inputs |
| 2 · Intermediate goods | 10 % | Semi-finished products, parts |
| 3 · Final consumer goods | 20 % | Clothing, furniture, electronics, food products |
| 4 · Specific goods for economic development | 35 % | Products protected to support local production |
FAQ
Duty questions
What is the VAT rate on imports into Senegal?
18%, calculated on the CIF value plus customs duty and the statistical and community levies. Some goods are exempt or taxed at a reduced rate.
What is the CIF value?
Cost, Insurance and Freight: the price of the goods plus insurance and freight to the Port of Dakar or AIBD. Senegalese customs calculate duties on this value, whatever incoterm you bought under.
What are the customs duty categories?
Senegal applies the ECOWAS common external tariff with five categories: 0% for essential social goods, 5% for raw materials and capital goods, 10% for intermediate goods, 20% for final consumer goods and 35% for specific goods protected for economic development.
Are goods made in ECOWAS countries exempt from duty?
Goods originating in ECOWAS member states can enter free of customs duty under the regional trade liberalisation scheme, with an approved certificate of origin. VAT and some levies still apply.
Can I use this calculator for Mali or another country?
No. The calculator is built on Senegal's rates and applies only to goods cleared for consumption in Senegal. Cargo in transit to Mali pays its duties in Mali. Contact us for an estimate for another country.
Is the result the amount I will pay?
No. It is an estimate. The final duties are set by Senegalese customs on the declaration, based on the HS code, the declared value and any excise or special tax that applies.
